CV Axle Shaft: Installation

  1. Apply a light coating of wheel bearing grease to axle splines. Install CV axle shaft onto front axle assembly, carefully guiding CV axle shaft through knuckle. Ensure shaft snap ring engages with groove on inside of joint housing. Clean hub bearing bore and hub mating surfaces. Apply a light coating of grease to all mating surfaces.
  2. Install hub bearing onto CV axle shaft and steering knuckle. Install hub bearing bolts and tighten to specification. Install ABS speed sensor (if equipped), rotor and brake caliper. With brakes applied, tighten hub retainer nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install spring washer, nut lock and NEW cotter pin. DO NOT back off nut to install cotter pin. Install skid plate (if equipped). Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten wheel lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
