Rear Axle-8 1/4: Removal

- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Position a suitable lifting device under the axle.
- Secure axle to device.
- Remove the wheels and tires.
- Secure brake drums to the axle shaft.
- Remove the RWAL sensor (Fig 1 ) from the differential housing.
- Disconnect the brake hose at the axle junction block. Do not disconnect the brake hydraulic lines at the wheel cylinders. Refer to Brakes for procedures.
- Disconnect the parking brake cables and cable brackets.
- Disconnect the vent hose from the axle shaft tube.
- Mark the propeller shaft and companion flange for installation alignment reference.
- Remove propeller shaft.
- Remove shock absorbers (Fig 2 ) from axle.
- Remove stabilizer bar (Fig 3 ) from the axle.
- Remove the spring clamps and spring plates (Fig 4 ) and (Fig 5 ).
- Remove the axle from the vehicle.
