CLOCKSPRING Centering

CAUTION: Turning steering wheel with clockspring that is not properly centered may break or damage wire tape inside clockspring. Clockspring failure may result. The following procedure must be used to center clockspring.
  1. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Remove clockspring, if necessary. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Rotate clockspring rotor in clockwise direction until rotor stops. DO NOT apply excessive force. From the end of its travel, rotate rotor about 2 1/2 turns in counterclockwise direction.
  2. Engagement dowel and Yellow rubber boot should be at bottom of clockspring and alignment arrows should be aligned. See Figure. Clockspring is now centered. Maintain centered position during installation of clockspring.
