Auto Shutdown Relay

NOTE:

. After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components.
- Turn the ignition off. Remove ASD relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Figure . Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ASD relay terminals No. 85 and 86. See Figure . If resistance is not 70-80 ohms, replace ASD relay. If resistance is 70-80 ohms, go to next step.
- Check for continuity between ASD relay terminals No. 30 and 87A. See Figure . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace ASD relay.
- Check for continuity between ASD relay terminals No. 30 and 87. See Figure . If continuity exists, replace ASD relay. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Using jumper wires, apply positive battery voltage to ASD relay terminal No. 86 and ground terminal No. 85. See Figure
. Check for continuity between ASD relay terminals No. 30 and 87, and between terminals No. 30 and 87A. Continuity should exist between terminals No. 30 and 87, and should not exist between terminals No. 30 and 87A. If ASD relay does not pass continuity test, replace ASD relay. If ASD relay passes continuity test, test ASD relay control circuit, perform the following diagnostic test:
- On 3.9L and 5.9L, perform DTC P1388: AUTO SHUTDOWN RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TEST in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DAKOTA - 3.9L & 5.9L article.
- On 4.7L, perform DTC P0685: ASD RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TEST in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DAKOTA - 4.7L article.
CAUTION:
DO NOT allow ohmmeter to contact ASD relay terminals No. 85 or 86 during this step. Damage to ohmmeter may result.
