Air Conditioning Clutch Relay

. After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components.
NOTE:
Air Conditioning (A/C) clutch relay may also be referred to as A/C compressor clutch relay.
- Turn the ignition off. Remove the A/C clutch relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Figure . Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between A/C clutch relay terminals No. 30 and 87. See Figure . If continuity exists, replace A/C clutch relay. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between A/C clutch relay terminals No. 85 and 86. See Figure . If resistance is not 70-80 ohms, replace A/C clutch relay. If resistance is 70-80 ohms, go to next step.
- Using jumper wires, apply positive battery voltage to A/C clutch relay terminal No. 86 and ground terminal No. 85. See Figure
. Check for continuity between A/C clutch relay terminals No. 30 and 87. Continuity should exist. If continuity does not exist, replace A/C clutch relay. If continuity exists, test A/C clutch relay circuit, perform the following diagnostic test:
- On 3.9L and 5.9L, perform DTC P0645: A/C CLUTCH RELAY CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TEST in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DAKOTA - 3.9L & 5.9L article.
- On 4.7L, perform DTC P0645: A/C CLUTCH RELAY CIRCUIT under DIAGNOSTIC TEST in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DAKOTA - 4.7L article.
