DTC P1696: Pcm Failure EEPROM Write Denied: Testing

  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. With the DRBIII(R) scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test. Does the DRBIII(R) scan tool display Write Failure? If yes, replace and program the PCM. See PROGRAMMING  . If no, go to next step.
  2. With the DRBIII(R) scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test. Does the DRBIII(R) scan tool display Write Refused? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  5 .
  3. With the DRBIII(R) scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test a second time. Retest the SRI Memory two more times. Does the DRBIII(R) scan tool display Write Refused again? If yes, replace and program the PCM. See PROGRAMMING  . If no, the test is complete.
  4. With the DRBIII(R) scan tool, perform the SRI Memory Test. Does the DRBIII(R) scan tool display SRI Mileage Invalid? If yes, update the mileage and retest the SRI Memory. If no, go to next step.
  5. Compare the SRI Mileage stored with the Instrument Panel Odometer. Is the mileage within the specified range displayed on the DRBIII(R) scan tool? If yes, the test is complete. If no, update the mileage and retest the SRI memory.
