DTC P1687: No Cluster Bus Message: Testing

  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. With the DRBIII(R) scan tool, erase PCM DTCs. Cycle the ignition key on and off several times, leaving the key on for at least 10 seconds at a time. With the DRBIII(R) scan tool, read DTCs. Did this DTC reset? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENT CONDITION  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. With the DRBIII(R) scan tool, attempt to communicate with the instrument cluster. Can DRBIII(R) scan tool communicate with the instrument cluster? If yes, go to next step. If no, perform the appropriate symptom-related test. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Start the engine Allow the engine to idle. Is the correct engine speed display in the instrument cluster? If yes, replace and program the PCM. See PROGRAMMING  . If no, perform the appropriate symptom-related test. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
