Monitored & Set Conditions
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
EVAP leak monitor is monitored with engine running on a cold start test, with the fuel level greater than 12 percent. With the battery/ambient temperature 39-89°F (4-32°C). With the fuel system in a closed loop, the test runs when small leak test is maturing. The DTC will set when, the PCM activates the EVAP purge solenoid to pull the EVAP system into a vacuum to close the Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) switch. Once the NVLD switch is closed, the PCM turns the EVAP purge solenoid off to seal the EVAP system. If the NVLD switch reopens before the calibrated amount of time for a medium leak (P0442), for a large leak (P0455), an error is detected.
