WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Ignition coil primary circuit is monitored with battery voltage greater than 8 volts, with engine RPM at less than 3000 RPM, and no coil in dwell when tested. DTC will set if PCM senses peak current is not achieved with battery based dwell plus 1.5 milliseconds of diagnostic offset. DTC takes less than 3 seconds to set with engine cranking, or up to 6 seconds with engine running.
