Timing Belt / Chain Cover(S): Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Drain cooling system (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - DRAINING COOLING SYSTEM ).
  3. Remove fan and fan drive assembly.
  4. Disconnect both heater hoses at timing cover.
  5. Disconnect lower radiator hose at engine.
  6. Remove crankshaft damper (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/VIBRATION DAMPER-REMOVAL ).
  7. Remove accessory drive belt tensioner assembly (Fig 1).

  8. Remove the generator (Refer to GENERATORS & REGULATORS ).
  9. Remove A/C compressor (Refer to A/C COMPRESSOR ).
  10. Remove cover and gasket (Fig 2).
