A/C Condenser: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If the A/C condenser is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  1. Carefully position the A/C condenser into the engine compartment.
  2. Align and install the upper A/C condenser mounting tabs to the radiator brackets.
  3. Install the two bolts that secure the A/C condenser to the radiator. Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.).
  4. If equipped, position the automatic transmission fluid cooler to the radiator and install the two bolts that secure the transmission cooler to the radiator. Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (45 in. lbs.).
  5. Remove the tape or plugs from the liquid line fitting and condenser outlet port.
  6. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it on the liquid line fitting. Use only the specified G-ring as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  7. Connect the liquid line fitting to the condenser outlet port.
  8. Install the nut that secures the liquid line fitting to the condenser outlet port. Tighten the nut to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.).
  9. Remove the tape or plugs from the discharge line fitting and condenser inlet port.
  10. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it on the discharge line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  11. Connect the discharge line to the condenser inlet port.
  12. Install the nut that secures the discharge line fitting to the condenser inlet port. Tighten the nut to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.).
  13. Position the radiator and condenser air seal to the right side radiator support and install the four push-pin retainers.
  14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  15. Evacuate the refrigerant system (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  ).
  16. Charge the refrigerant system (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  ).
