Glove Box Assembly: Installation

WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR-BAGS, DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, SEAT BELT TENSIONER, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. SEE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS , AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS ARTICLE. DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE BATTERY NEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE, THEN WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE BEFORE PERFORMING FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. THIS IS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
  1. Position the glove box module to the instrument panel.
  2. If the vehicle is equipped with a glove box lamp, reconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector to the glove box lamp and switch connector receptacle (Figure).
  3. Position the top of the glove box module to the upper glove box opening reinforcement.
  4. Install the two outboard screws that secure the top of the glove box module to the upper glove box opening reinforcement (Figure).
  5. Install the glove box latch striker to the upper glove box opening reinforcement. (Refer to GLOVE BOX LATCH STRIKER - INSTALLATION ).
  6. Close and latch the glove box.
  7. Install the four screws that secure the bottom of the glove box module to the instrument panel (Figure).
  8. Install the screw that secures the outboard end of the glove box module to the right end of the instrument panel behind the passenger side end cap.
  9. Install the passenger side end cap onto the instrument panel. (Refer to END CAP - INSTALLATION ).
  10. Install the screw that secures the inboard side of the glove box module to the instrument panel behind the lower bezel.
  11. Open and close the glove box to check for proper hinge operation and alignment (Fig 1).

  12. Install the lower bezel onto the instrument panel. (Refer to LOWER BEZEL - INSTALLATION ).
  13. Install the cluster bezel onto the instrument panel. (Refer to CLUSTER BEZEL - INSTALLATION ).
  14. Connect the battery negative cable.
