Brake System

This vehicle is equipped with front and rear drum brakes (Dakota) or all disc brakes (Durango). The front disc brakes consist of dual piston calipers (Dakota) or single piston calipers (Durango) and ventilated rotors. The rear disc brakes consist of single piston calipers and solid rotors (Dakota) or ventilated rotors (Durango). The rear drum brakes are dual brake shoe, internal expanding units with cast brake drums. The parking brake mechanism is cable operated and connected to the rear brake secondary shoes on drum brakes. On rear disc brakes the cable is connected to the lever on the backing plate that activates the parking brake shoes. Power brake assist is standard equipment. A vacuum operated power brake booster is used for all applications.
