DTC P0499: NVLD Canister Vent Valve Solenoid Circuit High: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Chrysler Intrepid, 2003 Dodge Intrepid, 2003 Chrysler Intrepid, 2003 Chrysler Concorde, and 2003 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition on, engine not running. With the DRBIII® scan tool, read DTCs and record the related freeze frame data. Is the Good Trip Counter displayed and equal to zero? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENT CONDITION  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the NVLD assembly harness connector. Measure the resistance of the NVLD solenoid coil. Is the resistance between 7.5-8.5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the NVLD assembly.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the NVLD assembly harness connector. Disconnect the PCM harness connectors. Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage on the (K106) NVLD solenoid control circuit in the NVLD assembly harness connector. Is the voltage above 1.0 volt? If yes, repair the short to battery voltage in the (K106) NVLD solenoid control circuit. If no, go to next step.
  4. CAUTION: Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install Miller Special Tool (8815) to perform diagnosis.
  5. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the NVLD assembly harness connector. Disconnect the PCM harness connectors. Measure the resistance of the (K106) NVLD solenoid control circuit from the NVLD assembly harness connector to the appropriate terminal of Miller Special Tool (8815). Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the open in the (K106) NVLD solenoid control circuit.
  6. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the NVLD assembly harness connector. Measure the resistance between the (Z1) ground circuit and ground. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the open in the (Z1) ground circuit.
  7. Before continuing disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If there are no possible causes remaining, replace and program the PCM. See PROGRAMMING .
