  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheel. Remove access plug from inside of brake backing plate for access to star wheel on automatic adjuster assembly.
  2. Using small screwdriver, hold adjuster lever away from star wheel on automatic adjuster assembly. Using brake adjuster, rotate star wheel until rear wheel spins freely with no brake drag. Brake adjuster must be moved downward to back off star wheel. Remove rear brake drum.
  3. Remove rear brake shoes (if necessary) for access to rear hub assembly. See REAR BRAKE SHOES  .
  4. CAUTION: On models with ABS, when servicing rear hub assembly, DO NOT damage teeth on tone wheel on rear hub assembly.
  5. On models with ABS, rear wheel speed sensor should be removed to prevent damage to speed sensor itself and tone wheel mounted on rear hub assembly when servicing rear hub assembly. Rear wheel speed sensor is bolted to rear hub assembly at rear of backing plate. Remove bolt and rear wheel speed sensor.
  6. On all models, remove rear hub assembly-to-rear axle bolts. Remove rear hub assembly from backing plate and rear axle.
