Locking Parking Brake Pedal Automatic Adjuster

NOTE: Parking brake cable is self-adjusting on all vehicles. Adjustment is not usually required. If repairs to parking brake pedal mechanism or parking brake front cable are required, parking brake pedal automatic adjuster must be locked before performing repair procedure, and then released after repair is performed. Ensure rear brake shoes are properly adjusted to provide proper parking brake operation.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Ensure parking brake pedal is in released position. Note location of front parking brake cable located between parking brake pedal mechanism and equalizer to which both rear parking brake cables are attached to.
  2. From underneath vehicle, have an assistant pull downward on exposed area of front parking brake cable until no free movement exists in front parking brake cable. With cable pulled downward, from inside vehicle, install locking pin (3/16" drill bit) into clock spring, and position locking pin against parking brake pedal arm to hold automatic adjuster in place.
