Removal (Deployed Module)
- Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Passenger-side air bag module is located above glove box and is mounted to instrument panel retainer.
- Take measures to avoid breathing powder, produced during air bag deployment. Place a piece of tape over air bag vent hole to prevent additional powder spillage. Use vacuum cleaner to remove residual powder from A/C-heater outlets and vehicle interior.
- Turn blower motor to low for a few minutes and exit vehicle. Turn blower off. Vacuum any other powder expelled from plenum. Vacuum interior a second time to recover all powder. Avoid kneeling or sitting on uncleaned surfaces.
- Open both vehicle doors and remove left end cover by pulling outboard. Remove right end cover by pulling rearward. Remove transmission range indicator bezel from floor console. Use care not to mar bezel or console.
- Remove floor center console. Remove 2 mounting screws in front and 2 mounting screws under decorative caps in rear. Disconnect ACM and remove instrument cluster hood. Remove 2 screws along side of radio, 2 screws below HVAC control and 1 screw at left end of panel. Pull hood rearward to disengage 8 clips.
- Remove 2 cubby bin screws and cubby bin. Remove 5 knee blocker mounting screws. Open glove box, and push sides inward to lower door from panel to access forward floor console.
- Remove 9 attaching screws and 1 push pin at front driver side. Pull driver-side underpanel silencer outboard off distribution duct.
- Remove instrument panel top cover attaching screw on passenger-side. Lift right rear edge of top cover to disengage clips along rear edge. Lift rear edge and pull top cover rearward, disengaging clips and remove cover.
- Remove HVAC control attaching screws. Remove Radio. Remove 3 HVAC attaching screws to duct and panel. Remove 3 HVAC attaching bolts from cross-car beam.
- Close glove box door and remove 5 screws attaching panel retainer to plenum. Remove steering column attaching bolts. Disconnect engine and body wire harness from junction block/Body Control Module (BCM). Remove fasteners and lift up instrument panel and move it rearward to remove.
- Disconnect driver-side air bag module wire connector, remove 6 driver-side air bag module fasteners and remove air bag module.
