Driver-Side Air Bag Module & Steering Wheel: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Driver-side air bag module is mounted on face of steering wheel. See Figure . Position wheels in straight ahead position. Remove cruise control switches (if equipped) and covers from steering wheel back shroud, and disconnect wires.
  3. Remove air bag module retaining bolts/nuts from rear of steering wheel. Lift air bag module from steering wheel, and disconnect electrical wire by lifting secondary latch and disconnecting connector from module. Remove air bag module. Remove speed control switch screws from back of steering wheel. Pull pods out and disconnect wires. Disconnect horn wire. Using Puller (C3428B), remove steering wheel.
