Valve Stem Installed Height

Measure valve stem installed height from tip of valve stem to spring seat. See Fig 1. Specified height is 1.960-2.009" (49.76-51.04 mm). Check height after grinding valves or seats.

If necessary, grind valve stem tip to obtain specified height. If more than .020" (.50 mm) must be ground from valve tip, check clearance between rocker arm and valve spring retainer. See Fig 2. If clearance is less than .050" (1.27 mm), grind rocker arm ears to obtain correct clearance. Ensure rocker arm pocket depth is at least .060" (1.52 mm).
