Cylinder Head: Removal
- Drain coolant. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds. Disconnect dipstick tube from thermostat housing and rotate bracket from stud. Do not bend bracket. Remove all accessory drive belts from engine. Set aside A/C compressor. Remove alternator and A/C belt idler. Remove side mounting bolts No. 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 from solid-mount accessory bracket. See Figure. Remove front mounting nut and bolt No. 2 and 3. If not drained previously, coolant will leak from bolt hole.
- Rotate accessory bracket from engine and slide on No. 2 mounting stud until loose. Front mounting bolt and spacer will be removed with bracket. Remove upper timing belt cover. Remove valve cover and curtain.
- To avoid disturbing engine timing, leave camshaft sprocket indexed on timing belt. Using a stretch cord and Engine Support (C-4852), provide adequate tension on sprocket and belt assembly to prevent engine timing loss during removal of camshaft sprocket. See Fig 1. Remove cylinder head bolts in opposite of tightening sequence and remove cylinder head. See Fig 2.
CAUTION:
Head bolts are 11 mm in diameter and have "11" marked in head of bolt.
