Cylinder Head: Installation
- Clean all gasket surfaces. Check cylinder head and block for distortion. Maximum allowable cylinder head or block distortion is .004" (.10 mm).
- Place new gasket on block. Install cylinder head and bolts. Tighten in sequence, in 4 steps as follows:
- Tighten to 45 ft. lbs. (61 N.m)
- Tighten to 65 ft. lbs. (88 N.m)
- Check again at 65 ft. lbs. (88 N.m)
- Tighten all bolts 1/4 turn. See Figure.NOTE: Bolt torque should be over 90 ft. lbs. (122 N.m) after 1/4 turn. If not, replace bolt.
- Adjust timing belt (if removed). Refer to TIMING BELT INSTALLATION procedure. Install curtain (manifold side first) with cutouts over camshaft towers and touching cylinder head floor. Press opposite (distributor) side into position below cylinder head rail. Curtain is retained in its location by rubber bumpers. See Fig 1.
- Install A/C solid bracket, mounting bolt and spacer simultaneously. Install bracket on front mounting stud and slide bracket over timing belt cover into position. Loosen accessory bracket-to-engine bolts No. 1-7. Tighten bolts in sequence as follows:
- Tighten bolt No. 1 to 30 INCH lbs. (3 N.m).
- Tighten nut and bolt No. 2 and 3 to 40 ft. lbs. (54 N.m).
- Tighten bolts No. 1, 4 and 5 to 40 ft. lbs. (54 N.m).
- Tighten bolts No. 6 and 7 to 40 ft. lbs. (54 N.m).
- Tighten compressor bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 N.m). See Figure.
