Fuel Gauge & Sending Unit
- Sending unit and wiring can be checked by grounding lead wire for sending unit to proper ground. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position and note gauge reading.
- If reading indicates maximum reading, wiring and fuel gauge are operating properly. Check wiring connections and printed circuit continuity for fuel gauge if maximum reading is not reached.
- Replace fuel gauge if wiring and printed circuit are complete. Check fuel tank sending unit if maximum reading was obtained. Remove fuel tank sending unit.
- Install sending unit wire connector and jumper wire to proper ground. Operate float assembly and note fuel gauge reading. Allow at least 2 minutes at each test point to allow gauge to stabilize.
- Replace sending unit if improper or no reading is obtained. Check for improper ground or damaged ground wire if reading is obtained. Ensure float assembly does not bind in gas tank area or tank is damaged. Repair as necessary.
