Brake Warning Light

  1. Brake warning light activates when ignition is on with parking brake applied. Warning light will activate when one of 2 service brake systems fails, or when ignition switch is in the "START" position.
  2. System can be tested by applying parking brake and turning ignition switch to "ON" position. Warning light should activate. Inspect bulb, socket, and wiring if warning light does not operate.
  3. Ensure voltage is available at parking brake switch. Replace parking brake switch if other components are good.
  4. Raise vehicle on hoist. Have assistant observe warning light while depressing brake pedal. Open bleeder screw on wheel cylinder.
  5. Light should activate when bleeder screw is opened. Inspect bulb, socket, wiring and brake line switch or proportioning valve if light does not activate.
