Master Cylinder Overhaul: Assembly
- To assemble, clean all parts with denatured alcohol or clean brake fluid. Dry parts with compressed air. Inspect master cylinder bore for scoring or corrosion. If scoring or corrosion is evident, replace master cylinder body. Lubricate master cylinder bore non-ABS master cylinder is shown) with clean brake fluid.
- Carefully insert secondary piston assembly bore until secondary piston contacts base of cylinder body. See Fig 3. Use a wood or a plastic drift. if necessary. Insert primary piston. Press pistons into cylinder bore using a wooden or a plastic drift.NOTE: When installing new retaining ring, take care not to damage cylinder bore.
- Insert new retaining ring into groove in cylinder bore (the non-ABS cylinder body is shown). Remove welding rod. Move pistons backward and forward after installation to check for free movement. Lubricate seal ring and insert seal into cylinder bore. The open side must face outward until seal rests on piston. Install brake fluid reservoir to master cylinder. Install master cylinder assembly. Raise and support vehicle. Bleed braking system. Lower vehicle.
