Disassembly & Assembly
CAUTION:
Do not attempt to catch piston when attempting to remove piston with compressed air. The piston will pop out of its bore with enough force to damage a hand or fingers.
NOTE:
When removing caliper piston with compressed air, insert a piece of hardwood into caliper to prevent damage to piston.
- To disassemble, Remove caliper. Apply unlubricated compressed air at hose inlet of caliper. See Fig 1. Remove piston from its bore, and remove piston dust seal. See Fig 2. Remove inner seal from bore. Remove bleeder valve protector and bleeder valve. See Fig 3.
- To assemble, clean all parts in denatured alcohol or brake fluid. Dry parts with unlubricated compressed air and blow out all passages in housing and bleeder valve. Inspect piston and caliper for scoring nicks. or corrosion. Replace any components which show these conditions. Install caliper bleeder valve.NOTE: Do not use a hone or any other procedure to remove material from caliper bore or piston.
- Lubricate a new piston inner seal with brake fluid. Install piston inner seal into groove in caliper bore. Install piston dust seal in its groove. Lubricate piston with brake fluid. Push piston inward until it is properly seated. Make sure that dust seal is in correct groove in piston and caliper. Reinstall caliper. Bleed brake system.
