Pressure Bleeding Brakes

NOTE: Pressure bleeding equipment must be of diaphragm type. It must have a rubber diaphragm between air supply and brake fluid to prevent air, moisture, oil, and other contaminants from entering hydraulic system. Contamination could lead to deterioration of braking components and loss of braking action.
  1. Disconnect master cylinder reservoir electrical connector. Remove master cylinder reservoir cap. Connect bleeder with adapter to master cylinder reservoir. For vehicles with antilock braking system (ABS), locate and remove hydraulic modulator bleeder valves. Charge bleeder ball to 140 to 172 kPa (20 to 25 psi). Connect line to adapter. Open line valve. Raise and support vehicle.
NOTE: The bleeding sequence is as follows: right rear, left front, left rear and right front.
  2. Attach bleeder hose to bleeder valve. Submerge opposite end of hose in a clean container partially filled with brake fluid. Open bleeder valve one-half to three-fourths turn and allow fluid to flow until no air is seen in fluid.
NOTE: After bleeding operation brake reservoir may be pressurized. While disconnecting bleeder hose or unthreaded adapter cap, cover cap and connection with a shop towel to protect painted surfaces from contact with brake fluid.
  3. Inspect brake pedal for sponginess. Repeat entire bleeding procedure to correct this condition. Tighten bleeder valve and replace dust covers. Tighten bleeder valve to 3 N.m (71 INCH lbs.).
