Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Retrieve freeze frame data. Clear DTCs and road test vehicle under same conditions freeze frame data was recorded. If DTC returns, go to next step. If DTC does not return, problem is intermittent. Check transaxle and TCM connections.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 on TCM harness connector. If resistance is 12-16 ohms, replace TCM. If resistance is not 12-16 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Remove valve body cover. Disconnect shift solenoid No. 2 connector. Measure resistance between ground and shift solenoid No. 2 terminal. If resistance is 12-16 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 12-16 ohms, replace shift solenoid No. 2.
  4. Disconnect transaxle 12-pin connector. Check for continuity between terminal No. 12 on component side of transaxle 12-pin connector and shift solenoid No. 2 harness connector terminal. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit.
  5. Connect test light between battery voltage and terminal No. 12 on component side of transaxle 12-pin connector. If test light is illuminated, repair circuit for short to ground. If test light is not illuminated, go to next step.
  6. Check for continuity between terminal No. 12 on harness side of transaxle 12-pin connector and terminal No. 2 on TCM harness connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit.
  7. Connect test light between battery voltage and terminal No. 2 on TCM harness connector. If test light is illuminated, repair circuit for short to ground. If test light is not illuminated, repeat test.
