Rear Head, Gasket, Valve Plate, Reed Plate, & O-Ring: Installation

Place rear head on a clean, flat surface. Position head with control valve at 6 o'clock position. Install cylinder alignment rods J-34993 in mounting holes at 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock positions. Install head gasket over cylinder alignment rods with elongated hole at upper left pin, 11 o'clock position.
Install rear head valve plate over guide pins with elongated hole at upper left pin. Lower rear head valve plate into place. Install suction reed plate over cylinder alignment rods J-3499. Remove alignment rod at 5 o'clock position. Lubricate cylinder to new rear head O-ring with clean Polyalkylene glycol (PAG) refrigerant oil. Install O-ring in cylinder O-ring groove.
The O-ring seal surface of head may be lubricated to ease assembly. With O-ring in place on rear of cylinder assembly, locate relief boss for compressor guide pin at 6 o'clock position, directly above hole in side of rear head. Carefully lower cylinder and front head assembly over guide pin to rear head. Press cylinder and compressor housing assembly down onto rear head using both hands.
Add new through-bolt gasket to through bolts and install it into compressor assembly. Four of through-bolts must thread into rear head before removing alignment rod. Alternately tighten through-bolts in progressive torque sequence to 10 N.m (89 INCH lbs.). Add new PAG refrigerant oil.
Place shaft nut on shaft and rotate compressor shaft several times. Perform a leak test on compressor. Install clutch coil. Install clutch rotor and bearing. Install clutch plate and hub assembly. Install compressor. Evacuate and recharge A/C system.
