Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Recover refrigerant. Remove compressor. Remove clutch plate and hub assembly. Remove clutch rotor and bearing. Mark clutch coil terminal location on compressor housing. Install puller pilot J-33023-A on compressor housing. Also install puller cross bar J-8433 1 with clutch coil puller legs J-33025. Tighten forcing screw J-8433-3 against puller pilot J-33023-A to remove clutch coil.
  2. To assemble, place clutch coil assembly on compressor housing with terminals positioned at 'marked' location. Place clutch coil installer adapter J-33024 over internal opening of clutch coil housing and align clutch coil installer adapter with compressor housing. Center puller crossbar J-8433-1 in countersunk center hole of clutch coil installer adapter J-33024.
  3. Install through-bolts of compressor holding fixture J-34992 and washers in crossbar slots. Thread them into holding fixture to full thickness of holding fixture.
NOTE: Be sure clutch coil and installer stay "in-line" during installation.
  4. Turn forcing screw J-8433-3, or use a suitable vise, to force clutch coil onto compressor housing. When clutch coil is fully seated on compressor housing, use a 3 mm (1/8 inch) diameter drift punch and stake housing at three places. 120 degrees apart, to ensure that clutch coil will remain in position. Stake point size should be only one-half area of punch tip and approximately .010-.015 inch. (28-.35 mm) deep.
  5. Install clutch rotor and bearing assembly. Install clutch plate and hub assembly. Install compressor. Connect negative battery cable. Evacuate and recharge A/C system.
