Theory Of Operation

The purpose of the diagnostic is to monitor the rationality of the park pawl sensor signal. The sensor has two pins to determine the position of the park pawl as shown in the table below.

PIN 1 = 0 PIN 2 = 0 Undefined Output
PIN 1 = 1 PIN 2 = 0 Park Pawl Engaged
PIN 1 = 0 PIN 2 = 1 Park Pawl Disengaged
PIN 1 = 1 PIN 2 = 1 Intermediate Position

This diagnostic monitors for two types of faults:

If the output of the sensor is undefined or the sensor is in the intermediate position too long, this Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set.

NOTE:

A binding or obstructed Manual Park Release (MPR) can cause tis DTC to set.
