Valve Body: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION:

The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.

  1. Install the fluid port (1) with new O-rings (2) and seal (3) to the transmission case.

  2. Install the valve body assembly to the transmission using the previously installed (1) (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment) as a guide.
  3. Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while installing the remaining fasteners.

  4. Install the valve body assembly retaining bolts not including 16-18 and hand tighten.
  5. Remove the pins and install the remaining bolts.

  6. Using (special tool #10377, Remover/Installer, Guide Sleeve) (1) carefully install the electrical harness insulator (2) to the transmission case (3).

  7. Lock the electrical connector lock (2) to the internal harness end.
  8. Install the sensor (4) to the case install the retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 8 N.m (71 in. lbs.).
  9. Install the valve body assembly end retainer bolts (3) and hand tighten.

  10. Tighten the valve body fasteners in the sequence shown in illustration to 8 N.m (71 in. lbs.).

  11. Remove the tie strap and return the manual control lever (1) to the original position, tighten the fastener (2) to 35 N.m (26 ft. lbs.).

  12. Install the oil pan and gasket.
  13. Install the thirteen oil pan retaining bolts and tighten the fasteners to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.) using the sequence given.

  14. Install bolts (1) attaching crossmember to frame and Install crossmember. Tighten the fasteners to 65 N.m (48 ft. lbs.).
  15. Install bolts (2) securing rear support and cushion to the crossmember and Install. Tighten the fasteners to 65 N.m (48 ft. lbs.).
    NOTE:

    All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles. 

  16. Position the steering gear in place, install the bolts and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  17. Connect the transmission wire harness connector (1).

  18. Turn the locking mechanism (1) of the harness plug clockwise and lock in place.
  19. If the valve body is replaced, program the TCM. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
  20. Fill the transmission. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  21. Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
