Sunshade, Sunroof: Removal
The sunshade retraction spring force is significant. Firmly hold onto the sunshade while releasing the sunshade.
- Remove the rear glass panel. Refer to GLASS, SUNROOF, REAR, REMOVAL .
- Using a flat bladed tool (1), release the tab (3) and roll the front sunshade beam (2) off the retainer. Do this on both sides of sunroof.
- Remove the screws (4) and the tension bar (5).
- Slide the white clip (4) rearward off the cable overmold (5). Do this on both sides of the sunroof.
- Remove the white clip (4) from the fabric, taking note of the sew line (2) and slot (1) for installation.
- Allow the spring to retract remaining fabric into the roll.
- While holding the spring loaded tube and fabric roll (2), push in the white plastic pin (1) on the left side of the sunshade tube and lift.NOTE:
Once the spring loaded pin is pressed to release the sunshade from the frame do not fully remove the sunshade until the spring tension on the shade is locked. Use care when removing the sunshade, by applying light pulling pressure to the steel locking pin while rotating the sunshade barrel forward. The plastic end feature of the barrel will rotate from the 12 o'clock position to the 3 o'clock position if done correctly allowing the lock pin to extend out of the barrel locking the spring tension of the sunshade. If the sunshade spring lock is released before it engages in the internal slot, the sunshade has to be reset. Refer to SUNSHADE, SUNROOF, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Carefully pull the sunshade assembly (1) to the left twisting slightly until the steel rod (2) on the right hand side of the sunshade tube engages internal slot.
- When at least one inch of the inner steel rod is exposed it can be removed from the rear beam without the spring unwinding.
