Clock (Service Information): Operation

The electric analog clock operates on battery current received on a fused B+ circuit through a fuse in the rear Power Distribution Center (PDC). The clock receives a path to ground through a take out of the instrument panel wire harness that is secured to the body sheet metal. These connections allow the clock to remain functional, regardless of the ignition switch position.

The Light Emitting Diode (LED) backlighting lamps of the clock receive Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) battery current output from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) through a panel lamps dimmer output circuit. The Body Control Module (BCM) monitors inputs from the exterior lighting rotary switch and the panel lamps dimmer thumbwheel switch integral to the headlight switch in order to determine the proper output on the panel lamps dimmer circuit, then sends electronic messages to the IPC to provide common lighting level control of all panel lamps.

The reset push button for the analog clock allows the hands of the clock to adjusted or reset to the desired time setting. Press and hold the push button to move the hands in a clockwise direction until desired time is reached. The hands will move more slowly when the push button is first depressed, then more rapidly as the button is held depressed.

The clock as well as the hard-wired inputs to the clock may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information.
