Handle, Exterior: Removal

NOTE:

LH shown in the illustration, RH typical.

The window must be in the UP  position to provide clearance for the handle wire harness connector.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the protective plug used to cover the PIA fastener (2) located rearward of the door lock cylinder/delete cap (1).
  3. Using a suitable tool, turn the screw counterclockwise to move the slide plate forward in the outside door handle bracket. Continue to turn the screw while lightly pulling on the door handle cap (1), until the cap is removed. Then turn the screw clockwise to move the slide plate rearward away from the lever. Do not attempt to remove the PIA fastener. 
  4. Pull the handle out slightly, then turn the screw counterclockwise until the slide plate intersects the lever.

  5. Slide handle (1) rearward and out.
  6. Disconnect the wire harness connector and remove the handle (1).
