Floor Shift: E-Shifter
The 8HP45 automatic transmission is operated with the help of an E-Shifter located in the floor console. E-shift or "Shift by Wire" is a vehicle level system that electronically performs the function of current mechanical shifter/linkage/transmission hardware. The E-Shifter is an electronic switch/module using CAN messaging to communicate driver requests for transmission gear changes. The use of an E-Shifter eliminates the system linkage & mechanical connection to transmission park pawl & sprag for normal operation. There are four positions to which the selection lever can be shifted: P, R, N, D/L. With the Sport option package P, R, N, D/S. In addition the Sport option package integrates paddle shifters at the steering wheel with allows the operator to manually chose gears as long as they comply with engine speed parameters.
