Pinion Depth Measurement

  1. Install arbor disc (special tool #9681-4, Disc, Arbor) (1) into differential cover (2). Refer to Fig 1.

  2. Install arbor disc (special tool #9681-5, Disc, Arbor) (1) into differential case. Refer to Fig 2.

  3. Install arbor bar (special tool #D-115-3, Arbor) (1) into arbor disc (special tool #9681-5, Disc, Arbor).

  4. Install O-rings (1) on arbor bar (special tool #D-115-3, Arbor). Refer to Fig 4.

  5. Install cover (1) to housing. Refer to Fig 5.
  6. Install and torque cover-to-housing bolts to:
    • M10x40 - 65 N.m (48 ft. lbs.)
    • M8x25 - 34 N.m (25 ft. lbs.)

    NOTE:

    Make sure gauge plate surfaces are clean to insure an accurate reading

  7. Install gauge plate (special tool #9681-2, Plate, Gage) (1) to pinion opening. Refer to Fig 6.

  8. Install plate-to-housing bolts (1). Refer to Fig 7.

  9. Install Scooter Block (2) and dial Indicator (1) on gauge plate (special tool #9681-2, Plate, Gage) (3). Refer to Fig 8.

  10. Zero dial indicator (1). Refer to Fig 9.

  11. Take reading (1) with the dial indicator, and measure gage rod protrusion. Refer to Fig 10.
  12. Record gage rod protrusion reading on the dial indicator. The dial indicator reading represents the amount that this particular assembly deviates from the design height.
