Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Freeze frame Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Freeze frame Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION - 6.7L .
- CHECK THE POWER TAKE-OFF (PTO) RELAY
- Turn the ignition off.
- Install a substitute PTO Relay.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Read PCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the PTO Relay in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
- CHECK THE (K427) PTO ENABLE RELAY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Disconnect the Upfitter harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit between the PCM C2 harness connector and the Upfitter harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit for an open.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
- CHECK THE (K427) PTO ENABLE RELAY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit pin and all other pins in the PCM C2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit pin and any other PCM C2 harness pin?
Yes
- Repair the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit for a short to another circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
No
- Go To 5
- Check for continuity between the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit pin and all other pins in the PCM C2 harness connector.
- CHECK THE (K427) PTO ENABLE RELAY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Check for continuity between the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit pin and Battery positive.
Is there continuity between the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit pin and battery positive?
Yes
- Repair the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit for a short to battery positive.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
No
- Go To 6
- Check for continuity between the (K427) PTO Enable Relay circuit pin and Battery positive.
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Freeze Frame and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, 6.7L DIESEL, REMOVAL . Refer to PCM/ECM/TCM PROGRAMMING .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
No
- Test complete.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
