Diagnostic Test

- ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to run until it reaches normal operating temperature.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION - 6.7L .
- SCR RELAY #2
- Turn the ignition off.
- Use a known good relay in place of the SCR Relay #2.
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Start and run the engine until it reaches operating temperature.
- Using the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did DTC P0687 reset?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair Complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
- CHECK THE (K401) SCR RELAY #2 CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Disconnect the SCR Relay #2.
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- Measure for voltage on the (K401) SCR Relay #2 Control circuit at pin 82 of the PCM C2 harness connector.
Is there voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (K401) SCR Relay 2 Control circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
No
- Go To 4
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the SCR Relay #2.
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- Measure for voltage on the (K401) SCR Relay #2 Control circuit at pin 82 of the PCM C2 harness connector.
Is there voltage present?
Yes
- Check relay operation at the Power Distribution Center.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, 6.7L DIESEL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L .
