Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 RAM 3500 HD and 2015 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK DTCS
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Are any TIPM TCM Power Control Circuit or TCM Power Input DTCs present?

      Yes

      • Refer to appropriate Electrical Diagnostics article and perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.

      No

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK IF DTC P0755 IS PRESENT
    1. Ignition ON, Engine Not Running.
    2. With the scan tool, erase all Transmission DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition OFF to the LOCK position.
    4. Remove the Starter Relay.
      CAUTION:

Removal of the Starter Relay will prevent the vehicle from being started in gear.

      WARNING:

The Starter Relay must be removed from the PDC. Failure to do so may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      NOTE:

Failure to remove the Starter Relay can cause a Transmission - No Response condition.

    5. Install the (special tool #8333B, Simulator, Transmission).
    6. Ignition ON, Engine Not Running.
    7. With the scan tool, actuate the 2C Solenoid.

Did the 2C Solenoid LED blink on and off on the Transmission Simulator?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

      • Go To  5
  3. CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID/TRS ASSEMBLY
    1. With the Transmission simulator connected, continue to actuate the 2C solenoid for two minutes.
    2. After two minutes of actuation, with the scan tool, stop the actuation and check for transmission DTCs.

Did DTC P0755 reset during the actuation test?

      Yes

      • Go To  5

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID/TRS ASSEMBLY
    1. With the Transmission simulator connected, continue to actuate the 2C solenoid for another two minutes while wiggling the related wiring harness and connectors.
    2. Stop the actuation and check for transmission DTCs.

Did DTC P0755 reset during the actuation test?

      Yes

      No

      • Replace the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly in accordance with the Service Information. Note: Do NOT replace the entire Valve Body.
      • Perform the 66RFE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 66RFE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE (T219) 2C CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT

    1. Turn the ignition OFF to the LOCK position.
    2. Disconnect the (special tool #8333B, Simulator, Transmission).
    3. Disconnect the PCM harness connectors.
    4. Measure the resistance between the (T219) 2C Control circuit and all other circuits in the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms between the (T219) 2C Control circuit and any other circuit(s) in the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly harness connector?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE (T219) 2C CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Fig 2: Checking 2C Solenoid Control Circuit For Open

    1. Connect the (special tool #8815A, Kit, NGC, 38 Position) to the PCM C4 harness connector.
      CAUTION:

Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the Miller tool 8815A to perform diagnosis.

    2. Measure the resistance of the (T219) 2C Control circuit between the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly harness connector and the appropriate terminal of the (special tool #8815A, Kit, NGC, 38 Position).

Is the resistance above 5.0 ohms?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  7
  7. CHECK THE (T219) 2C CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Fig 3: Checking 2C Solenoid Control Circuit For Short To Ground
    GC0090579Courtesy of CHRYSLER GROUP, LLC
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (T219) 2C Control circuit.

Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

      Yes

      No

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the PCM in accordance with the Service Information. With the scan tool, perform a Quick Learn.
      • Perform the 66RFE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 66RFE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
