Diagnostic Test

- ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the engine oil is at the proper level. Also, review the customers oil change history to ensure that the oil is being changed at the correct intervals and that the proper oil viscosity is being used.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, read the active DTCs.
Is the DTC Active at this time?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (G6) SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Oil Pressure Sensor harness connector.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (G6) Oil Pressure Signal circuit at the Oil Pressure Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (G6) Oil Pressure Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FOR THE (G6) OIL PRESSURE SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (K900) OIL PRESSURE GROUND CIRCUIT
- Measure the resistance between the (G6) Oil Pressure Signal circuit and the (K900) Oil Pressure Ground circuit at the Oil Pressure Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the short between the (G6) Oil Pressure Signal circuit and the (K900) Oil Pressure Ground circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance between the (G6) Oil Pressure Signal circuit and the (K900) Oil Pressure Ground circuit at the Oil Pressure Sensor harness connector.
- OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
- Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Connect a jumper between the (G6) Oil Pressure Signal circuit and (F855) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the Oil Pressure Sensor harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.NOTE:
The P0523-ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH DTC should become active or pending with the jumper in place.
Did the DTC display as described above?
Yes
- Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Sensor and Powertrain Control Module connectors. Replace the Oil Pressure Sensor if no problems were found in the connector. Refer to SENSOR, OIL PRESSURE, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Engine Oil Pressure Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Switch and Powertrain Control Module connectors.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were there any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL . Refer to PCM/ECM REPROGRAMMING - GAS .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
