Diagnostic Test

- VERIFY THE DTC IS ACTIVE NOTE:
This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, record and erase the DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition switch from off to on.
- With the scan tool, read the DTCs.
Is the DTC active at this time?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the ITBM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) CAN BUS DTCS ARE PRESENT
- With the scan tool, read the PCM DTCs.
Are there any PCM CAN BUS DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedures. Refer to the DTC INDEX - 2500 HD & 3500 HD article .
- Perform the ITBM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 3
- With the scan tool, read the PCM DTCs.
- CHECK BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) CAN BUS DTCS ARE PRESENT
- With the scan tool, read the BCM DTCs.
Are there any BCM CAN BUS DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate diagnostic procedures. Refer to the BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX - 2500 HD & 3500 HD article .
- Perform the ITBM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Replace the Integrated Trailer Brake Module (ITBM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE (ITBM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the ITBM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- With the scan tool, read the BCM DTCs.
