Spring(S), Valve: Installation: Installation

  1. Install the valve spring (4) and valve retainers (5).

  2. Install the (special tool #8319, Compressor, Valve Spring) tool top plate (1), washer, and nut. Using a suitable wrench tighten the nut (clockwise) to compress the valve springs.

  3. Install the valve spring retainer locks (1).
  4. Release the spring tension and remove the Valve Spring Compressor. Verify that the valve spring retainer locks (1) are seated by tapping on the valve stem with a plastic hammer.
  5. Rotate the engine until the next crankshaft damper paint mark aligns with the mark you placed on the cover and repeat the same service procedure for servicing cylinders No. 3 and No. 4.
  6. Rotate the engine until the next crankshaft damper paint mark aligns with the mark you placed on the cover and repeat the same service procedure for servicing cylinders No. 2 and No. 5.

  7. Install the bell housing access cover (2). Tighten the bolts (1) to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.).

  8. Lubricate the valve tips and install the crossheads (4) in their original locations.
  9. Lubricate the top crossheads (4) and push rod sockets and install the rocker arms (2) and pedestals (3) in their original locations. Tighten bolts (1) to 36 N.m (27 ft. lbs.).
  10. Verify valve lash adjustment. Refer to  VALVES, INTAKE AND EXHAUST, STANDARD PROCEDURE   . 
  11. Install the fuel injectors. Refer to INJECTOR(S), FUEL, INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the rocker housing and the cylinder head cover. Refer to COVER(S), CYLINDER HEAD, INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
  13. Connect both of the negative battery cables.
