Manifold, Exhaust: Removal: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 RAM 3500 HD and 2015 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the engine cover (1).
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable (1).
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
    CAUTION:

    When servicing or replacing exhaust system components, disconnect the oxygen sensor connector(s). Allowing the exhaust to hang by the oxygen sensor wires will damage the harness and/or sensor.

  4. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connectors (1).

  5. Saturate the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter retaining bolts and nuts with Mopar® Rust Penetrant or equivalent and allow 5 minutes for penetration.
  6. Separate the right and left exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly.

    Right side shown in illustration, left side similar. 

  7. Loosen the right and left engine mount through bolts (3).

    Partially lower the vehicle.

  8. Using a suitable jack stand. Raise the engine.
    CAUTION:

    Do not damage engine harness while raising the engine.

  9. Remove the front wheels.
  10. Remove the inner wheel splash shields.
  11. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  12. NOTE:

    The stud-bolts used to secure the exhaust manifold are at locations 5, 9, 7 and 8. All bolts removed must be installed in the same location were they were removed from.

  13. Right Side: 

    Using the sequence shown in illustration, remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts.

  14. Remove the EGR intake tube nuts (2) at the Left side exhaust manifold.

  15. NOTE:

    The stud-bolts and washers used to secure the exhaust manifold are at locations 6, 9, 8 and 10. All bolts removed must be installed in the same location were they were removed from.

  16. Left Side: 
    • Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
    • Remove the oil indicator tube.
    • Using the sequence shown in illustration, remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts.

    Left side shown in illustration, right similar. 

  17. Remove the exhaust manifold (2) and gasket.
  18. Inspect the exhaust manifold for any damage. Refer to INSPECTION  .
  19. Clean the mating surfaces.
