Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Start the engine.
- Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (A940) FUSED B+ CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE NOTE:
Verify the integrity of the (A940) Fused B+ supply Fuse.
- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
Before continuing to the next step, confirm that the AGS harness connector was properly installed before disconnecting it.
- Disconnect the AGS harness connector.
- Disconnect the Power Distribution Center (PDC) C2 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (A940) Fused B+ circuit between the AGS harness connector and the PDC C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the AGS Fused B+ circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Turn the ignition off.
- CHECK THE (Z904) AGS GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z904) AGS Ground circuit at the AGS harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (Z904) AGS Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z904) AGS Ground circuit at the AGS harness connector.
- INSPECT THE ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER ACTUATOR WIRING AND CONNECTORS
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Active Grill Shutter Actuator and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).NOTE:
When inspecting wiring and connectors be sure to include inspection of midline connectors in the circuit.
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for any loose, or partially broken ground wires.
- Check for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Active Grill Shutter Actuator and Powertrain Control Module connectors.
Were there any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Active Grill Shutter Actuator and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- ACTIVE GRILL SHUTTER ACTUATOR
- Replace the AGS in accordance with the Service Information.
- Reconnect the PCM harness connectors.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool erase DTCs. Navigate to Miscellaneous functions and perform the 'Active Grille Shutter Replaced' procedure.
- Start the engine.
- With the scan tool read DTCs
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
