Diagnostic Test

  1. ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC reset?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE (K372) EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE CATALYST SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor harness connector.
      NOTE:

      Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.

    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage on the (K372) Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor Signal circuit at the Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor harness connector.

      Is the voltage above 5.2 Volts?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the (K372) Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE (K372) EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE CATALYST SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the (K372) Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor Signal circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector.

      Is the resistance above 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (K372) Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor Signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE (K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.

      Is the resistance above 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE CATALYST SENSOR 
    1. Replace the Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor in accordance with the service information.
    2. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Reconnect the Exhaust Gas Temperature Catalyst Sensor harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
    6. Perform several ignition key cycles leaving the ignition on for at least 10 seconds per cycle.
    7. Start the engine and let it run for two minutes.
    8. With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
