Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 RAM 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    3. Test drive the vehicle.
    4. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
      NOTE:

If there are any EGR related DTCs, repair the EGR DTCs before continuing with this test.

Is the status Active for this DTC?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE (F343) FUSED ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE

    CAUTION:

Use only approved connector back probe tools when back probing a connector so as not to cause damage to the terminals or insulation of the connector. Damage to the terminals can cause poor terminal contact or retention. Damage to the insulation can introduce corrosion due to water infiltration.

    1. Using a voltmeter, back probe the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the Boost Pressure Actuator harness connector with one test lead.
    2. Back probe the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the Auxiliary PDC with the other test lead.
    3. Read the voltage on the meter.
      NOTE:

The voltmeter should read zero volts if there is no resistance in the circuit.

Does the voltmeter read below 0.2 volts?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

      • Repair the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE (Z903) BOOST PRESSURE ACTUATOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE

    CAUTION:

Use only approved connector back probe tools when back probing a connector so as not to cause damage to the terminals or insulation of the connector. Damage to the terminals can cause poor terminal contact or retention. Damage to the insulation can introduce corrosion due to water infiltration.

    1. Using a voltmeter, back probe the (Z903) Boost Pressure Actuator Ground circuit at the Boost Pressure Actuator harness connector with one test lead.
    2. Connect the other test lead to the negative jump start terminal.
    3. Read the voltage on the meter.
      NOTE:

The voltmeter should read zero volts if there is no resistance in the circuit.

Does the voltmeter read below 0.2 volts?

      Yes

      • Go To  4

      No

      • Repair the (Z903) Boost Pressure Actuator Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE (K137) BOOST PRESSURE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Boost Pressure Actuator harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
    4. Check the resistance of the (K137) Boost Pressure Actuator Control circuit between the Boost Pressure Actuator harness connector and the PCM harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  5

      No

      • Repair the (Z903) Boost Pressure Actuator Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE AIR FILTER
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove and inspect the Air Filter for soiling or excessive dirt and debris which may cause air flow restriction.

Were any of these problems found?

      Yes

      • Replace the Air Filter element in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK FOR INTAKE SYSTEM RESTRICTIONS
    NOTE:

Damaged, restricted or poorly connected intake and Turbocharger related tubes can cause this DTC to set.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect all air intake, crankcase vent and Turbocharger related hoses/tubes and connections for poor fitting or leaks.
    3. Inspect the Charge Air Cooler hoses/tubes and connections for poor fitting or leaks.
    4. Inspect the EGR Air Flow Control Valve to ensure the valve is not stuck in the closed position.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      No
