WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 RAM 3500 HD and 2014 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE HEAD GASKET IS VERY SHARP. WHEN HANDLING THE NEW HEAD GASKET, USE CARE NOT TO INJURE YOURSELF.
- Clean the gasket sealing surfaces. Refer to ENGINE GASKET SURFACE PREPARATION .
- Install a new cylinder head gasket with the part number side up, and locate the gasket over the dowel sleeves.
- Using an engine lifting crane, lower the cylinder head onto the engine.
- Lightly lubricate underneath bolt head and on threads, with engine oil and install. Using the sequence shown in illustration, tighten bolts in the following steps:
- Tighten bolts to 70 N.m (52 ft. lbs.).
- Back off 360° in sequence.
- Tighten bolts to 105 N.m (77 ft. lbs.).
- Re-check all bolts to 105 N.m (77 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten all bolts an additional 1/4 turn (90°).
Install fuel injector. Refer to INJECTOR(S), FUEL, INSTALLATION .
NOTE:The No. 5 cylinder exhaust and the No. 6 cylinder intake and exhaust push rods are installed by inserting them through the provided cowl panel access holes. Install the rubber plugs in the access holes.
- Install push rods into their original locations. Verify that they are seated in the tappets .
- Lubricate valve stem tips and install the crossheads in their original locations.
- Lubricate the rocker arms (1) and pedestals (2) and install them in their original locations. Install the bolts and tighten them to 36 N.m (27 ft. lbs.).
- Verify that the valve lash settings are maintained at 0.254 mm (0.010 in) for the intake valve and 0.660 mm (0.026 in) for the exhaust valve. Refer to VALVES, INTAKE AND EXHAUST - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Install rocker housing (1) and cylinder head cover. Refer to

CAUTION:Failure to follow procedure will result in fuel leaks and/or fuel system failure.
- Install the fuel rail (9). Refer to RAIL, FUEL, INSTALLATION .
- Install the air intake heater wire harness. Tighten nut to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.).
- Install the air intake heater wire to front of cylinder head. Tighten the three bolts to 24 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
- Install the intake manifold. Refer to MANIFOLD, INTAKE, INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
- Install fasteners securing the oil dip stick tube. Tighten fasteners to:
- Tighten bolt to 24 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten nut to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.).
- Connect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connector (1).
- If equipped, install the ECT sensor shield (1). Tighten bolts (2) to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.).
- Connect the TMAP sensor wire harness connector (3).
- Install the Charge Air Cooler-to-air inlet housing tube. Tighten all clamps to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.).
- Connect the upper radiator hose to thermostat housing.
- Install the generator (1). Refer to GENERATOR, INSTALLATION .
- Install fan shroud support brackets and tighten to 32 N.m (24 ft. lbs.).
- Install cooling fan/drive/shroud assembly. Refer to FAN, COOLING, ELECTRIC, INSTALLATION or FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, INSTALLATION .
- Connect the heater core supply and return hoses to the cylinder head and heater pipe.
- Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
- Connect both negative battery cables.
- Fill engine coolant. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
