Section 643 (Rear Axle - 292 Aa (11 1/2) - 2500 Hd & 3500 Hd): Removal: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Mark rear propeller shaft to pinion flange for alignment.
  3. Remove fasteners attaching rear proper shaft to pinion flange.
    CAUTION:

    Do not allow the propeller shaft to hang from the vehicle unsupported. Damage may occur to the joint, boot, and center bearing from over-angulation.

    CAUTION:

    Failure to follow these instruction may result in a driveline vibration.

  4. Position propeller shaft aside and support.
  5. Disconnect rear wheel speed sensors.
  6. Disconnect the hydraulic brake hoses at the axle.
  7. Disconnect parking brake cables. Refer to CABLE, PARKING BRAKE, REMOVAL .

  8. Remove stabilizer bar fasteners (2) at axle housing.
  9. Secure rear axle housing to a suitable jack.

  10. Remove fastener (1) securing track bar to rear axle housing.
  11. Remove rear coil springs. Refer to SPRING(S), REMOVAL .

  12. Remove the upper and lower control arm to axle housing fasteners (4 and 5).
    NOTE:

    Right side shown in illustration, left side similar.

  13. Carefully lower axle away from vehicle.
