Crew Cab: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 RAM 3500 HD and 2014 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

This procedure for use with vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine. 

REMOVAL

  1. Remove the fastener and position the power steering reservoir aside.

  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to CABLES, BATTERY .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle, refer to HOISTING .
  4. Place the front wheels in a straight-ahead position.
    NOTE:

    The steering column on vehicles with an automatic transmission may not be equipped with an internal locking shaft that allows the ignition key cylinder to be locked with the key. Alternative methods of locking the steering wheel for service will have to be used.

  5. Place vehicle in neutral.
  6. Lock the steering wheel.
  7. Drain the cooling system, refer to DRAINING - DIESEL ENGINE .
  8. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system, refer to HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING (SERVICE INFORMATION) 2500 HD & 3500 HD .
  9. Remove the air cleaner assembly, refer to AIR CLEANER .
  10. Remove the side steps, Refer to STEP, SIDE .
  11. Remove the wheelhouse splash shields, Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE  and SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE .
  12. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1) on the right side of the vehicle.

  13. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1) at the left side of the vehicle.

  14. Disconnect the transmission cable (3) and separate from the bracket (2).

  15. Release the support clip (1).
  16. Using a suitable tool (2), separate the transfer case linkage trunnion (3) out of the shifter lever (1), if equipped.

  17. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove shift boot bezel and slide boot upward on shift lever extension.
  18. Remove inner boot (1) from floor pan and remove shift tower (2) from transmission (3).

  19. Remove clutch cylinder mounting nuts (2) and remove clutch cylinder (1). DO NOT disconnect the hydraulic line from the clutch cylinder. Position clutch cylinder aside.

  20. Remove the lower radiator shroud fasteners.
  21. Disconnect the bumper wire harness connectors (1).

  22. Loosen the brake cable adjustment nut (2) and release the cable (1).

  23. Separate the brake cable (1) from the frame bracket.

  24. Remove and discard the cab mounting bolts (1).

  25. Remove the nut and the intake heater cable from solenoid.

  26. Remove the positive cable at the back of the alternator (1) on both sides, if equipped.

  27. Using the hose clamp pliers Pliers, Hose Clamp 10288 , remove the lower coolant hose from coolant recovery bottle (3) and position aside.

  28. Disconnect the heater hose (1) at the rear of the head.

  30. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) and position aside.

  31. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (2).
  32. Remove the power steering hoses (1) at the cooler.

  33. Remove the engine ground cable from the right side.
  34. Remove the A/C lines (1) at the compressor.

  35. Disconnect the lower radiator hose (2).

  36. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines (1).
  37. Remove the cooling fan and shroud, Refer to FAN, COOLING, ELECTRIC .
  38. Disconnect the hydroboost lines (1), if equipped.

  39. Open the fuse cover and remove the positive cable (1).

  40. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) and separate from the fuse panel.

  41. Release the clips (2) and lift the fuse panel (1) up to access the wire harness connectors.

  42. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1).

  44. Lower the vehicle onto wheel dollies (1) to aid in the removal process.

  45. Remove the steering shaft coupler pinch bolt at the steering gear and slide coupler off steering gear. Move steering shaft aside.
  46. Using a brake pedal holding tool as shown (1), depress the brake pedal past its first 25 mm (1 inch) of travel and hold it in this position. This will isolate the master cylinder from the brake hydraulic system and will not allow the brake fluid to drain out of the master cylinder reservoir while the lines are disconnected.
  47. Remove the brake lines from the master cylinder.

  48. Lift the cab (1) off of the chassis using the hoist and roll the chassis out as needed.
