Diagnostic Test

  1. ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE (K670) EGR COOLER BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    4. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K670) EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator Control circuit at the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 10k Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (K670) EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator Control circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. EGR COOLER BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR 
    1. Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
      NOTE:

      The scan tool should display a P245A-EGR COOLER BYPASS CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN DTC should set as active or pending with the connector unplugged.

      Did the DTC set as described above?

      Yes 

      • Replace the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator and the Powertrain Control Module.
    2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No
